Driving and getting around
The Philippines drive on the right side of the road.
Most people hire scooters which we can arrange for you. ALWAYS WEAR A HELMET AS PER PHILIPPINE LAW, if you are caught without a helmet you will be fined. If you don't want to ride a scooter, we can arrange a tour with our licenced guide to take you wherever you want to go. Canyoneering + Ziplining at Kawasan Falls, Osmena Peak, Cambais Falls, Lambug Beach - we can tailor make it to suit you. Taxi – We can arrange taxi transfers at any time of night or day to anywhere in Cebu. This includes to/from the airport, or to any Cebu ferry port (for example if you want to go to Bohol or Siquijor. Contact us to arrange your scooter hire, taxi transfer, canyoneering or any other activity during your stay. |
Tricycle - This is a motorbike with a sidecar. Most people hire the entire tricycle for themselves and their luggage.
Cost: Moalboal Town to Moalboal Eco Lodge - P200-P250 Moalboal Eco Lodge to Panagsama Beach: P200 - P250 Habal-Habal – Riding on the back of a motorbike is called a habal-habal. There are many people offering to take you from A to B, but no helmet is provided, and you will be expected to haggle. Cost: Moalboal to Panagsama is approximately P80, but they will start at P250. Do not pay this, as it sets a precedent for the future and leads to greed. It’s perfectly acceptable to pay a bit more than the going rate, but not when the price is more than double. |
Jeepney - Jeepneys are brightly coloured army style vehicles that have set routes, eg Moalboal – Badian. It's the cheapest way of getting around, fares start from P40, always make sure you have coins/small notes available to pay the exact amount. Ask other passengers for the fare, or find out in advance.
To ride a jeepney, stand on the side of the road and flag one down as it approaches. Feel free to ask the driver if they stop where you are going, then he (and the other passengers) will know when you would like to get off, and will usually help. If you know your stop, tap a coin on the roof bar, or yell “Para po” (please stop), and the driver will pull over. Pass your money to the driver (sometimes via other passengers like a game of pass the parcel) and squeeze yourself out. |
